Freeport Firefighters on tour
On July, 2nd 1999 it was again so far. To its 125-year annivesary of their fire brigade in the Nassau county on Long Island led the anniversary trip with woman and children to their fire-brigade friends to Walldorf. Hardly arrived, they were loadet into the town hall, where mayor Heinz Merklinger welcomed the guests.
In the same day the guests participated to hand over of the new fire-engine vehikle RW 2. In the best 'emporer weather' the mayor presented an oversize symbolic key with the words to commander Manfred Nauert: "This new vehikle i wish few order to go into action, as however as possible in case of necessary order to go into action the prevention of demage and disaster." In accordance with the election slogan: "God to honour, the next one to resistance."
On this occasion also the guests gifts were exchanget.
The band of the voluntary firebrigade Walldorf under the conducting of Walter Funk framed the solemn hand over of the new fire-fighting vehicle.
During the following American-German comradeship party it happened public festival. A two man band providet for the necessary groove. With the entrance of our pupil band with a Michael Jackson Song and a show dance of the dancing school Kronberger grow the atmosphere substantially. The guests now already intensify atmosphere for the showmanship with the appearance of the "Guggenmusician of Forst". A successful prelude to the 10 day stay of our American guests from Freeport, that was however not all.
Commander Manfred Nauert and his team had prepared a various and extensive program, witch offered hardly time to the guests for a breather:
* 7.3. Black Forest travel, afterwards birthday celebration.
* 7.4. Parade in Hagsfeld/Karlsruhe.
* 7.5. Sightseeing in Heidelberg
* 7.6. Trip to Idar-Oberstein for the ladies, inspection of the fire-brigade school in
Bruchsal for the gentleman,
summernight-celebration in the local berbecue hut in common.
* 7.7. Trip to Ruedesheim, a winetown by the Rhine river.
* 7.8. Trip to Rothenberg, a town with original city wall from the Middle Age, in the evening starting from 7PM the vineyard and
chapel ramble in Malsch for the ladies, for the gents in common exercise with the fire- brigades from Freeport, Sandhausen, Nussloch, Wiesloch and Walldorf, afterwards cosy gathering.
* 7.9. Trip in the Elsass, a country in the east of France. At 7 PM garden celebration of the regular pub meeting.
* 7.10. Lunchtime drinking of the regular pub meeting, at 1 PM travel to Speyer to the emperor cathedral, at 7 PM bavarian evening.
* 7.11. Return jouney to Freeport, Long Island, NY.
A eventful and beautiful week is situated behind us. For everyone, which was thereby, it is an unforgettable experience. The organization work out magnificent, for which not only the Nauert-team but also the colleagues from Freeport large praise must be pronounce.
